The Aviation, Computing, and Evaluation Branch provides an improved weather forecasting and visualization capability for use by military and civilian forecasters, air traffic controllers, air traffic managers, airline dispatchers, and general aviation pilots. This is accomplished via collaboration with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the National Weather Service (NWS), and the Departments of Defense and Transportation.
The Aviation, Computing, and Evaluation Branch is comprised of the following sections:
The Advanced Computing Section assures the improvement of numerical weather analysis and prediction systems through research and development in high-performance computing.
Aviation Systems Development and Deployment Group
The Aviation Systems Development and Deployment Group develops and evaluates advanced meteorological workstations and products for improving aviation safety and efficiency.
Forecast Impact and Quality Assessment Section (formerly Forecast Verification Section)
The Forecast Verification Section develops verification techniques and tools that allow for the generation and display of statistical information in near real time.
NextGen Development and Management Section (formerly Managing Aviation Projects Section)
The MAP Section manages GSD’s work on Nextgen. Some of this work is conducted with development partners such as NWS Meteorological Development Laboratory (MDL) and National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR).
