The U.S. Geological Survey's Reno Office, established in 1988, is located on University of Nevada Reno campus in the shadow of the northern Sierra Nevada range.  Scientists here conduct research on the geology, environment, and natural resources of the Great Basin region.  This research contributes to the scientific understanding of earth processes and provides a scientific basis for public policy decisions.  Our university setting allows for interaction and collaboration with local and regional government agencies, organizations, universities, and international groups.
