Q. What is the most important thing that your students have learned by corresponding with an overseas Peace Corps Volunteer? In 1961, the same year that the Peace Corps was established, President John F. Kennedy also created the U.S. Agency for International Development. USAID is a government agency that was created to give a helping hand to those people overseas struggling to make a better life, recover from a disaster, or striving to live in a free and democratic country.
