Announcing the 2012 Video of the Year

We’ve sifted through and tallied up your votes for the Coast Guard’s video of the year and you all left no doubt to what you love the most…being part of the action! From high surf off the Oregon coast to the intense training it takes to save lives, your favorite videos showcased the commitment Coast Guard men and women display on each and every mission.

And now for the winners…

First place: Surf’s Up!

Receiving 1,134 votes, your first place video is from the crews of Coast Guard Station Coos Bay, Ore. The compilation of first person footage was put together by crews at Station Coos Bay and features the extreme environment of the Pacific Northwest as boat crews battle waves and weather off the Oregon Coast.

Second place: I train so others may live

Receiving 933 votes, your second place video comes from Air Station Atlantic City, N.J. The video was filmed and edited by Petty Officer 1st Class Stephen Williams, and features rescue swimmer Jaime Vanacore as she shows us how she trains, “so others may live.”

Third place: Advanced Rescue Helicopter School

Receiving 561 votes, our third place video takes us once again to the Pacific Northwest and a unique training school out of Air Station Astoria, Ore. This video was filmed and edited by Petty Officer 3rd Class Nate Littlejohn and shows us how aircrews prepare in the most extreme weather conditions.

We would like to thank everyone who voted for their favorite video as well as all the units and videographers for their exceptional work throughout 2012. We look forward to showcasing the missions of the U.S. Coast Guard in 2013 and thanks again to all our fans!
