The bust of former Democratic Leader Oscar Underwood came to the Capitol in 1933, four years after his death and nearly 20 years after he left the House. Prolific American sculptor Chester Beach completed the work. Trained in France, Beach’s work is traditional in style and includes details of dress, such as the folds of the necktie and a watch chain seen here.
