Current Solicitations

Here is a list of current grant solicitations in the area of nanoscience and nanotechnology. Additionally, some Federal agencies have specific web pages for nanotechnology funding opportunities. You can also find a variety of Government programs on our Funding Opportunities page.

This page is updated weekly, but for a full list of all available Federal grants visit www.grants.gov, as well as Fed Biz Opps.gov. As a note, solicitations are often worded generally and the technological tools to be employed, whether micro-, nano- or macro-scale, are not specified. Looking broadly into areas of interest—for instance, toxin removal or semiconducting materials—is often the best approach.  Dates below are deadline dates.

NSF: Materials Processing and Manufacturing [PD-13-1467]

The MPM program supports fundamental, hypothesis-driven research on the interrelationship of materials processing, structure, properties, performance and process control. Analytical, experimental, and numerical studies are supported, including novel processing methods for any materials system (metals, polymers, ceramics, hybrids, composites, etc.)

NIST: Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) NIST Gaithersburg Programs [2013-NIST-SURF-G-01]

NIST Gaithersburg is soliciting applications from eligible colleges and universities in the U.S. and its territories, nominating undergraduate students to participate in the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) NIST Gaithersburg Programs (SURF NIST Gaithersburg Programs).

NSF: Designing Materials to Revolutionize and Engineer our Future (DMREF) [13-025]

The National Science Foundation (NSF), in support of the multi-agency, federal Materials Genome Initiative (MGI), has now granted the first awards for the Designing Materials to Revolutionize and Engineer our Future (DMREF) program.

NSF: Environmental Health and Safety of Nanotechnology [PD 13-1179]

The NSF's Environmental Health and Safety of Nanotechnology (Nano EHS) program provides support to examine and mitigate the environmental effects of nanotechnologies. Fundamental research is sought to understand, evaluate, and lessen the impact of nanotechnology on the environment and biological systems.

NSF: Energy for Sustainability [PD 13-7644]

This program supports fundamental research and education that will enable innovative processes for the sustainable production of electricity and transportation fuels.

NSF: Thermal Transport Processes [PD 13-1406]

The National Science Foundation's Thermal Transport Processes program supports engineering research aimed at gaining a basic understanding of the thermal transport phenomena at nano/micro and macro scales.

NSF: Particulate and Multiphase Processes [PD 13-1415]

The National Science Foundation's Particulate and Multiphase Processes program supports fundamental and applied research on phenomena governing particulate and multiphase processes.

NSF: Fluid Dynamics [PD 13-1443]

The National Science Foundation's Fluid Dynamics program supports fundamental research and education on mechanisms and phenomena governing fluid flow.

USDA: 1890 Institution Teaching, Research and Extension Capacity Building Grants (CBG) Program [USDA-NIFA-CBGP-004108]

The intent of this program is to build and strengthen institutional capacity through stimulating the development of high quality Education, Research and Extension programs at the 1890 Land-Grant Universities to produce baccalaureate and higher level degree graduates capable of strengthening the Nation’s food and agricultural scientists and professionals.

DoD: Research and Development Broad Area Announcement for New and Innovative Ideas [W9113M-09-0001-2012]

This Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) is a competitive solicitation procedure used to obtain proposals for basic and applied research.
