Washington, D.C. – Congressman J. Randy Forbes (VA-04) attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony, celebrating International Paper’s new fluff pulp operation in Franklin, VA on Friday, August 17th.
Congressman Forbes joined International Paper Chairman and Chief Executive Officer John Faraci and Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell at the event.
“International Paper’s reinvestment in the Franklin facility and the 200 jobs it brings back to Virginia comes none too soon for the people of Franklin. It is great to have the mill churning and a blessing that people are working here again,” said Congressman Forbes.
International Paper announced last year it would repurpose a portion of the former paper mill to produce fluff pulp, used in a variety of absorbent products such as baby diapers, adult incontinence products, feminine hygiene products and wipes. The company invested $90 million revamping the mill, which began operation at the end of June and has the capability of annually producing up to 270,000 metric tons of high quality fluff pulp for the global market. The mill brings back 200 jobs to Franklin.
