2/6/2013 - SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Airman 1st Class Jolene Adsitt of the 362nd Training Squadron was named the the 82nd TRW "Commander's Wingman of Choice" award winner for the week of Feb. 4-8.

Adsitt, an F-16 crew chief in training, is the first Airmen-in-Training (AiT) to be honored with the award.

The 82nd Training Wing "Commander's Wingman of Choice" award program is the commander's way of acknowledging Airmen for a job well done and to recognize Airmen who exemplify the spirit of the program.

Criteria for consideration include outstanding duty performance, community involvement and exemplary leadership.

Reason for submission:  Airman Jolene Adsitt was the clear choice for Wingman of Choice this week for exhibiting selfless leadership and true Wingmanship while participating in events that significantly impacted the local community.

During the recent "Adopt an Angel Program", she led a team of her peers in ensuring a local Wichita Falls family in need had a memorable Christmas. Adsitt's efforts led to the collection of over $400 to assist with the family's Christmas expenses.  She used the money to purchase clothing, shoes, and toys for their three children, ensuring they had gifts to open on Christmas morning...gifts that matched the personalities of each child. Previous to this, the family had not interacted with the military or Sheppard Air Force Base members. They were genuinely astonished by the generosity shown by each Airman in the F-16 training course. The mother also wrote a personal letter of appreciation to the squadron commander to express her gratitude towards Airman Adsitt, thanking her for making their holiday special. The mother stated, "My trust in God was never in question, but I was totally surprised it was these young men and women that came to our rescue."

Additionally, Airman Adsitt was placed in charge of the Habitat for Humanity "Passing of the Hammer" ceremony, organizing eight volunteers, assigning tasks and arranging transportation for the Airman volunteers to and from the local event.

In addition to her contributions to the local community, Amn Adsitt has remained focused on meeting the requirements of the F-16 Mission Ready Airman Course and has maintained an excellent 85% grade point average throughout her time at Sheppard. Because of her continued "Service Before Self", she is truly an example of the Air Force Wingman and is inspires both permanent party and Airman in training.

Commander's comments:  I am thoroughly impressed with Airmen Adsitt's desire to be involved in her community and her ability to inspire others to follow her. Her willingness to accomplish all of this in her off-duty time and successfully balance those projects with her mission as an Airman-in-Training indicates to me she'll be successful learning and progressing as a young maintainer in the field, and as an involved Wingman at her base and in her community when she transitions to Hill.  Airman Adsitt brings youthful energy and motivation to the school house every day, and demonstrates to her peers that leadership is not defined by rank. She's an outstanding ambassador here at Sheppard and will continue to do so wherever her career takes her. - Maj. Al Martz, 362nd TRS commander
