Cellulosic
ethanol, now being produced in pilot plants,
holds great promise for the future as a
source of fuel. It is made from cellulose,
the fiber abundantly contained in the leaves,
stems, and stalks of plants and trees. Unlike
corn and sugar – today’s sources
of ethanol – cellulose is not used
for food, and it can be grown in all parts
of the world.
