For Employers

Like all Soldiers, wounded, ill, and injured Soldiers are highly skilled, well trained, experienced leaders. While they are assigned to Warrior Transition Units (WTU), Soldiers may intern at federal agencies, and those separating from the Army are looking for employment when they transition to civilian status.

It is important for potential employers to understand that Soldiers have a wide variety of injuries, from amputations and orthopedic injuries to severe burns to traumatic brain injuries and behavioral health challenges.

Internships for Wounded, Ill, and Injured Soldiers

Soldiers may intern at federal agencies while assigned to a WTU. The WTU cadre will work with the internship organization to develop a work site placement agreement, outlining the days and times the Soldier is expected to work and other administrative understandings. The Soldier will continue to receive military pay during his/her assignment to the WTU, so there is no cost to the federal agency.

Federal agencies interested in providing an internship for a Soldier should contact the local WTU commander.

Employers Interested In Hiring Wounded Warriors

Organizations that want to hire Soldiers that separate from the Army should contact the Army Career and Alumni Program (ACAP) External Link, Opens in New Window through its website. WTU cadre and ACAP career advisors work closely together to ensure that separating Soldiers are aware of the employment resources available to them.

Jobs for Severely Wounded, Ill, and Injured Veterans
