  • Course Catalog

    All available courses for VA employees to learn practical and functional skills. Updated quarterly, this training focuses on:

    • Career and Technical Training (for all employees)
    • Manager & Supervisor Training
    • Transformational Leadership Training
  • Mandatory Training

    All VA employees are required to take the following two courses. There is other mandatory training for each Administration. Contact your local TMS administrator for more information. 

    VA Privacy and Information Security Awareness Course: This course fulfills the mandatory annual awareness training required by law for all VA employees. It contains annual security information and general privacy training. Certificates of completion apply to the Information Security and Privacy Awareness requirements and the Rules of Behavior. 

    Prevention of Workplace Harassment Course: The Notification and Federal Employee Anti-discrimination and Retaliation (NO FEAR) Act of 2002 requires that all Federal employees receive training on their rights and responsibilities in the areas of equal employment opportunity, non-discrimination and whistleblower protections. In our effort to cultivate a fair, diverse, harassment-free work environment, we have combined previously separate mandatory training courses into one single course.

    Supervisors & Managers: For those with no TMS access (e.g., contractors), you can print a PDF version of this course. This PDF is located under Related Documents on TMS.

    All local TMS administrators are invited to join this Community of Practice. Only available to VA employees who have a TMS administrator role

    This community features:

    • Job aids supporting all TMS administrator roles, from basic to advanced.
    • TMS administrator training information and schedules.
    • Discussions forums where administrators can learn more about TMS, ask questions, and connect across the country.
  • TMS Roles & Responsibilities

    Standard Roles: Used across all domains to manage TMS

    • Assignment Manager (AM): Makes learning assignments to Users.
    • Assignment Profile Manager (APM): Creates/manages Assignment Profiles. Role must be added in conjunction with another Admin Role.
    • Domain Manager (DM): Manages admin users, reference tables, and merging users.
    • Domain Administrators who have the Domain Manager role must also have the
    • Learning Manager role. There should be a primary and back-up Domain Manager identified for each domain. Role must be added in conjunction with another Admin Role.
    • Help Desk Manager (HD): Front-line support for TMS Users, including resetting passwords. Role must be added in conjunction with another Admin Role.
    • Human Resources Manager (HR): Views sensitive information about TMS Users that is not available to any other TMS Admin Role. Role and must be added in conjunction with another Admin Role. 
    • Item Manager (IM): Creates new items.
    • Learning Manager (LM): Manages and tracks user training needs. Can create Items and Scheduled Offerings.
    • Question Editor Manager (QEM): Creates Objectives, Questions, and Exam Objects.
    • Role and must be added in conjunction with another Admin Role.
    • Registration Manager (RM): Registers Users in Scheduled Offerings and records attendance.
    • Report Manager (RPT): Only administrative function is running Reports.
    • Scheduling Manager (SM): Creates and Manages Scheduled Offerings.
       

    Additional Roles: Only appear in selected domains for pilot testing

    • Accreditation Manager (ACM): Adds Accreditations based on nationally entered
    • Accreditation Types to their Domain. Role must be added in conjunction with another Admin Role.
    • Accreditation Item Manager (ACIM): Adds Accreditations to Items within their Domain.
    • Role and must be added in conjunction with another Admin Role, usually the Item Manager Role.
    • Competency Manager (CM): Adds Competencies within their Domain. Role must be added in conjunction with another Admin Role.
    • Competency Profile Manager (CPM): Adds Competency Profiles within their Domain.
    • Role and must be added in conjunction with another Admin Role.
    • Communities Manager (CM): Adds/manages Online Communities within the TMS. Role and must be added in conjunction with another Admin Role.
    • Performance Manager (PM): Accesses Performance functionality.
  • Veterans Advocacy and Awareness

    This suite of e-Learning modules aims to increase the awareness and understanding of the Veterans we serve so that VA staff may serve Veterans better.

    MILITARY CULTURAL AWARENESS 
    This course provides a common foundation for all VA employees. It offers an overview of common military culture and courtesies, roles and ranks within the military, differences between the branches of the armed services, some of the conflicts in which Veterans have served, and why this information is important in helping VA employees better serve the needs of Veterans and their families.

    CONNECTING WITH VETERANS 
    This course introduces VA employees to recommended best practices and applicable information for interacting with Veterans. The course consists of lessons that provide Veterans’ stories and the reasons why establishing this connection is so important.

    Through these stories and interactive instruction, VA employees will learn about VA’s administrations, customer best practices, the historical context, and medical conditions for Veterans who have served in military engagements and wars from WWII to the present day.

    SERVING WOMEN VETERANS 
    Women Veterans are one of the fastest-growing groups of Veterans. In the Serving Women Veterans course, hear the stories of women Veterans, who served in conflicts from WWII to modern day, and learn how their experiences impact what they need from VA.

    After completing Serving Women Veterans, you will be able to direct women Veterans to available VA benefits and services.
