Northern Fur Seal Photo Archive
Supplemental Images
In addition to photographs, maps and charts, this photo archive contains three types of supplemental documents, mostly provided in PDF format. The supplemental documents are useful resources that provide information about a particular series, a particular photograph, or the entire photographic archive.
- The first type and majority of these support documents provide information from the original photographer regarding a particular photographic series (i.e., the 1948 memo provides information about the 1948 ground-level series).
- The second type of document includes two memorandums:
- 1965 Memo (Scheffer suggestions) - this document lists Dr. Victor B. Scheffer’s suggestions for improving the methods in producing rookery photographs for comparison. Scheffer’s memo may be useful to anyone interested in duplicating this type of work or applying this methodology to another species.
- 1971 (Rookery Coordinates) - this document lists the latitude and longitude coordinates and approximate sizes for rookeries on St. Paul and St. George Island.
- The third type of document includes two spreadsheet files that provide comprehensive information for the rookery photographs included in the photographic archive as a whole.
- Northern Fur Seal Rookery Photo Archive - allows the reader to browse the information regarding each photo (e.g., rookery name, section number, altitude of plane, photographer, date of photograph, etc.) at a glance, using the features of Microsoft Excel.
- NFS Related Groups - a cross-reference file listing ground-level photographs that are comparable by general location (see Related Groups).
