Welcome to the Fort Devens Environmental Management System

The Fort Devens Environmental Management System (EMS) defines the means the installation uses to achieve its Sustainability Goals. The EMS is established to incorporate the ISO 14001 standards into the existing installation management structure and to facilitate the establishment of environmental programs that work in concert to support troop unit readiness and pay heed to our stewardship responsibility to protect and conserve the environment.

What is ISO 14001?

ISO 14001 gives the generic requirements for an environmental management system. The underlying philosophy is that whatever the organization's activity, the requirements of an effective EMS are the same.

This has the effect of establishing a common reference for communicating about environmental management issues between organizations and their customers, regulators, the public, government organizations and other stakeholders.

See the ISO 14001 Tutorial for more information.
