Gunnery Sergeant
Daniel J. Sullivan

Gunnery Sergeant Daniel J. Sullivan is a native of Billings, Montana. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in September 1996 and attended Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California.
Upon completion of Recruit Training, Private First Class Sullivan attended the Basic Course of Instruction at the Armed Forces School of Music in Virginia Beach, Virginia. While there, he was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.

In September of 1997, Lance Corporal Sullivan was assigned to the III MEF Band in Okinawa Japan. While stationed there he served as clarinet instrumentalist, the band’s concert master, supply clerk, and librarian. He was promoted to the ranks of Corporal and Sergeant while serving with the III MEF Band.
 
In September of 1999, Sergeant Sullivan was assigned to the 3D MAW Band in Miramar California. While stationed there he again served as clarinetist, concert master, transportation NCOIC, and librarian. Sergeant Sullivan was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in March of 2002.

In June of 2002, Staff Sergeant Sullivan was assigned to the MARFORRES Band in New Orleans Louisiana. While stationed with the MARFORRES Band. While stationed there he served as clarinetist, concertmaster, Platoon Sergeant, Administration SNCOIC, and Enlisted Conductor.

In December of 2004, Staff Sergeant Sullivan was transferred back to the Armed Forces School of Music to attend the Unit Leader’s Course. He graduated the eight-month Course in September of 2005 and was subsequently assigned to Marine Band San Diego. While serving with Marine Band San Diego Staff Sergeant Sullivan was selected for a lateral move from Marine Band Instrumentalist to Small Ensemble Leader. He simultaneously served as Small Ensemble Leader, Assistant Enlisted Conductor, and briefly as the band’s Drum Major.

In June of 2007, Staff Sergeant Sullivan was again transferred back to the Armed Forces School of Music to attend the Senior Musician’s Course. Upon completion of the course he was selected to stay at the School of Music as a clarinet instructor. While at the School of Music, he concurrently served as a Rehearsal Division Instructor and was appointed as Woodwind Branch Head. Staff Sergeant Sullivan was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant on July 1, 2009 and in February of 2010 was selected for a lateral move from Small Ensemble Leader to Enlisted Conductor.

Gunnery Sergeant Sullivan’s awards include the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4th award), Navy Meritorious Unit Citation (2nd award), Good Conduct Medal (4th award), Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.
