Marines of Battery Q, 5th Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment load into a C-130 Hercules aircraft to return to Aurora, Colo., after the Mission Rehearsal Exercise for African Lion 2013. The troops, assigned to Marine Forces Reserve, performed various live-fire battle drills before the unit deploys to AL-13 in Morocco this spring. Hummer and Booker, along with Coast Guard Rear Adm. Roy A. Nash, commander of Eight Coast Guard District, and Army Maj. Gen. Glenn H. Hummer, commander of Marine Forces Reserve and Marine Forces North, after being awarded a Silver Star Medal aboard Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, Jan. 31, 2013. Madrigal was awarded the nation’s third highest honor for his actions as a member of a squad patrol that was pinned down by insurgent fire. AL-13 is a U.S. African Command-sponsored, MFA-led exercise that involves various types of training including command post, live-fire and maneuvering, peace keeping operations, an intelligence capacity building seminar, amphibious operations, aerial refueling/low-level flight training, as well as medical and dental assistance projects.
