USO, ABC's 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' Team Up to Assist a Military Family

Friday, December 07, 2012

The USO is proud to play an important role in giving one military family a new home that is worthy of a hero.

ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" pays tribute to wounded, ill and injured veterans with a special holiday program, featuring the Harris family from Smithville, Texas. The episode, which includes not only Ty Pennington and his team of designers but also "Dancing With the Stars" champ J.R. Martinez and country music recording artist Lee Greenwood, will retrace Staff Sgt. Shilo Harris's journey.

Staff Sgt. Harris was injured in Iraq in 2007 during an IED attack and through his rehabilitation, he and his wife found a new passion for helping other wounded, ill and injured troops and their families recuperate and reintegrate into their lives away from the battlefield.

ABC will broadcast the two-hour program on Monday, Dec. 10 at 8 p.m. EST.

UPDATE (12/12/12): ABC has announced the episode will re-air on Sunday, Dec. 16 at 4 EST and is now also available at ABC.com, along with more interviews and photos of the Harris family.
