Important Announcement Regarding Updated U.S. Government Policy on HIV

On November 2, 2009, the Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (HHS/CDC), published a final rule in the Federal Register that will remove HIV infection from the list of communicable diseases of public health significance and remove references to HIV from the scope of medical examinations for aliens.  The final rule will go into effect on January 4, 2010.

For additional information, please visit the Department of State’s Travel.State.Gov web site, including a link to the CDC’s website, the Federal Register rule, and a useful Frequently Asked Question (FAQ) link that gives practical information on how this change may affect a visa application.  If you believe that your case may be affected by this change, please contact the consular section at CopenhagenNIV@state.gov (Non-immigrant cases) or CopenhagenIV@state.gov (Immigrant visa cases)
