Hidalgo, Texas—U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Hidalgo International Bridge arrested a Mexican national man wanted in connection with threats made to the Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino.

The arrest occurred on Wednesday morning, January 16, at the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge when Gustavo Cruz Lozano, age 41, arrived at the pedestrian lanes having taken a bus from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. When Lozano presented himself for inspection with a CBP officer, he immediately said that he was turning himself in. Preliminary queries indicated that he did have a warrant and was escorted to secondary where biometric checks through CBP and law-enforcement databases confirmed the active warrant from the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office. The warrant was a terroristic threat against a public servant and his alleged involvement in the threats made to Sheriff Trevino back in October.

The adult male traveler was arrested and released to the custody of the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office and transported to the McAllen Medical Center Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained while in Mexico. He will subsequently be transferred to the Hidalgo County Jail where he will wait to face his judicial proceedings.
