Del Rio Sector Border Patrol Agents Rescue Juvenile From Rio Grande

(Friday, January 04, 2013)

Del Rio, Texas – On Tuesday, Del Rio Sector Border Patrol agents rescued a teenage girl stranded in the Rio Grande.

Agents were notified by Mexican authorities that the girl was stuck on an island in the middle of the river and had lost her inner tube, while trying to cross the Rio Grande, near the Camino Real International Bridge at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry.

Border Patrol agents, assigned to the Marine Unit from the Eagle Pass North Border Patrol Station, were dispatched to the last known location of the subject. Agents immediately located and transported the subject to safety. The 17-year-old, a Honduran national, was taken to the Eagle Pass North Station and processed as an Unaccompanied Alien Child according to Del Rio Sector guidelines.

During Fiscal Year 2012, Del Rio Sector agents performed a total of seven rescues.
