ISSA Inaugurates Ira Winkler as International President

It is a great honor to be your president and I will do my upmost to fulfill the trust you have placed in me to lead our association for the next two years. I look forward to working with you to foster stronger communication between chapters, members and International, promote the value of ISSA in supporting your career path from college through retirement, and reinvigorating our association to meet the challenges and opportunities in the rapidly evolving environment of cybersecurity.
The first thing I plan to do is implement special interest groups. I believe these groups are some of the best ways to enhance value to current members and attract new members. There are currently two special interest groups in the works: the Security Awareness Group and the Health Care Security Professional Group. These groups are an attempt to take the efforts of the Minnesota Chapter and grow them internationally. The Security Awareness Group – led by Kelley Archer, ISSA Distinguished Fellow – will meet at the International Conference on October 25. Please plan to join us! I encourage members to submit recommendations for other groups that can attract international participation. |

We would like to invite you to join us at the 2012 ISSA International Conference that will be held in Anaheim, CA. This event will gather the cybersecurity community from across the country and around the world for discussions focused on our conference theme "Embracing a Changing World.” I’m sure we have all seen change in our organizations over the last year; migrations to cloud, organizational mergers, increased knowledge about cybersecurity threats by business leaders, and consumer devices brought into the enterprise environment. Although not always our first reaction, these fundamental shifts are an opportunity to use our hard-won knowledge to design systems and policies to improve the business functions and make our organizations safer.
