For FOIA Requesters
OGIS is a neutral, independent office within the Federal government that assists both Federal agencies and FOIA requesters by advocating for a fair FOIA process. OGIS provides mediation services to resolve disputes between FOIA requesters and Federal agencies, and reviews agencies’ FOIA policies, procedures and compliance.
How can OGIS help requesters? We:
- Provide general information about FOIA and the FOIA process;
- Offer best practices for working with Federal agencies;
- Host roundtables and events with the public to discuss FOIA issues;
- Point to agency contacts such as FOIA Public Liaisons; and
- Work with requesters and agencies to prevent and resolve FOIA disputes
If you would like to talk to us about these services, please call (202) 741-5770 or email us at ogis@nara.gov.
