Environmental Analyses & National Environmenal Policy Act Program

The Southeast Region (SER) National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the compliance of regional actions with NEPA and other laws and executive orders that impose requirements for environmental analysis. The Coordinator works with regional, council, and headquarters staff to improve the timeliness, quality, and consistency of NEPA documentation and the NEPA process in general.

National Environmental Policy Act

The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969 (P.L. 91-190; 42 U.S.C. 4321-4347) is our basic national charter for protection of the environment. The purposes of NEPA are to:

  • Declare a national policy that will encourage productive and enjoyable harmony between humans and their environment,
  • Promote efforts which will prevent or eliminate damage to the environment and biosphere,
  • Promote efforts that will stimulate the health and welfare of humans,
  • Enrich the understanding of the ecological systems and natural resources important to the Nation, and
  • Establish a Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ).

Training

Formal NEPA Training is scheduled on an as needed basis. Informal training may be scheduled with the SERO NEPA Coordinator. Check with the SERO NEPA Coordinator for upcoming training events.
