Lilli shares insight on role as new Aviation Deputy Commander

Charlie Lilli joined DLA Aviation Dec. 3 as its deputy commander. Since then, he has been meeting with senior Aviation and DLA leaders. Lilli took time to interview with DLA Aviation Public Affairs Jan. 24 to share a little more of himself with the Aviation work force.

How would you describe your leadership style?

Inclusive and engaging…I like to walk around and be involved. In my book, leadership is all about being in the service of others. That’s how I hope to lead here.

Value Engineering saves hundreds of thousands of dollars in material costs

Defense Logistics Agency Director Navy Vice Adm. Mark Harnitchek released his 2013 Director’s Guidance Jan. 25, and the focus is on executing the agency’s “Big Ideas” initiative, which was developed in 2012 to achieve savings and efficiencies.

Keeping in line with the director’s initiative of Decrease Direct Material Costs, DLA Aviation Engineering identified a Value Engineering candidate through its Repair Parts Purchase or Borrow Program that netted $258,078 in procurement savings and future savings of $157,714 is anticipated annually based on existing demand quantities, according to Paul Plonski, chief, Sourcing and Reliability Programs.

Aviation kicks-off February Basic Business Surge

DLA Aviation kicked-off the “Basic Business Surge” Feb. 1 and it will continue through the month. The purpose of the surge is to accelerate our progress in our basic business areas.

All DLA Aviation employees will participate in the Basic Business Surge, either directly or by playing a supporting role. Depending on their job roles, DLA employees will prioritize and focus their work in many areas to include awarding more purchase requests for both consumables and repairable, placing more items on long term contracts, reducing technical blocks and reducing back orders.
