Title: Management methods and silvicultural systems: what are they?

Author: Godman, Richard M.

Year: 1992

Publication: In: Hutchinson, Jay G., ed. Northern hardwood notes. St. Paul, MN.: U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, Forest Service, North Central Forest Experiment Station. 2.01

Abstract: Terminology has often hindered rather than helped in the understanding of northern hardwood management. We have found that even among practicing professional foresters in the same part of a State, terms such as "management methods" and "silvicultural systems" mean different things to different individuals. This confusion is even worse between regions, where, besides personal interpretations, climates and species requirements are different. Here is how we have used and interpreted two important terms used in these Notes.
