The Global Climate Observing System (GCOS) recognizes the Global Temperature and Salinity Profile Programme (GTSPP) as one of the international operational activities that provide essential, sub-surface climate variables of temperature and salinity profile data. GTSPP provides timely and complete data with documented quality flags and implements internationally agreed quality control and overall management of ocean data fully in accordance with the GCOS action plan

Objectives

  • Provide timely access to the highest quality, highest resolution temperature and salinity profile data.
  • Implement data flow monitoring system for improving the capture and timeliness of real-time and delayed-mode data.
  • Improve and implement agreed and uniform quality control and duplicates management systems.
  • Facilitate the development and provision of a wide variety of useful data analyses, data and information, products, and data sets.

Important Notices:

  • 13 February 2013: A comparision of quality control using "QCed" and "Mquest" is available here (PDF).
  • 30 January 2013: The GTSPP Data Product Centre's (GDPC) Monthly Report for November 2012 is available HERE. The Japan Meteorological Agency operates the GDPC.
  • 22 May 2012: A GTSPP brochure is available HERE.
  • 14 May 2012: Report of the First Session of the Joint IODE-JCOMM Steering Group for the GTSPP is available HERE.
  • 30 November 2011: The revision of the GTSPP NetCDF 4.0 is now completed. GTSPP 4.0 User's Manual is available here .GTSPP will start to populate the new netCDF 4.0 on or about 15 December 2011.
  • 28 March 2011: The GTSPP Data Product Center (GDPC) for the North Pacific Ocean is officially established by the Japan Meteorologial Agency.
  •   9 March 2011: GTSPP Poster Presentation at the IODE 50th Anniversary International Conference (PDF, 1.03MB; JPG, 107KB)
  • 10 January 2011: Draft GTSPP Bi-Annual Report for 2009-2010 is available here for public review.
  • 6 December 2010: The first revision of the GTSPP Real-Time Quality Control Manual is available there through this link.   The purpose of this Manual is to set standards for quality control of real-time data and to describe exactly the screening process that is employed. By reading this document, users may assess the applicability of the procedures to their requirements and thereby judge whether they need do further work before using the data.
