Recently, the Directed Energy to DC (DE2DC) Exhibition event was held in the Congressional Rayburn House Building in Washington, D.C. The Directed Energy Professional Society organized and executed logistic arrangements under the sponsorship and support of the Congressional Directed Energy (DE) Caucus and the High Energy Laser-Joint Technology Office (HEL-JTO).
The purpose of this event was to inform U.S. Congressional members, including the newly formed DE Caucus, on the state-of-the-art DE weapon technologies being researched and developed at leading U.S. government labs and defense companies.
The technologies will provide unprecedented solutions to defeat missile/RPG attacks and effectively protect our troops.
The 12 exhibitors included the U.S. Army Research Laboratory (ARL), the Air Force Research Laboratory (Kirtland), Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, L-3, General Atomics, BAE Systems and others.
Dr. Jiang Liu and Gary Carhart of ARL's Computational and Information Sciences Directorate presented the innovative internal phase-locking 7- and 19-channel fiber laser array system developed under ARL mission and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and HEL-JTO programs.
Many legislative professional staff and fellows visited the exhibition where they engaged in detailed discussions.
Four congressional members including Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee Buck McKeon, Maryland Congressman Roscoe Bartlett, and the DE Caucus leaders, Representative Martin Heinrich and Representative Doug Lamborn, came to visit the exhibition and conversed with scientists and engineers at the presentation where they pledged continuing support for the DE technology in their legislative and budgetary capacities.
