Pharmacy Residency Welcome Page

Greetings from the Pharmacy Residency Director

Welcome to the Portland VAMC Pharmacy Practice Residency Program. We hope our website answers any questions you may have about our program and our application process. We currently offer three positions for our PGY-1 residency program for general medicine and one position for our CBOC residency focused in primary care. We are seeking funds for additional positions, including CBOC at our Bend, Ore. facility and a PGY-2 in Mental Health.  The programs emphasize preparing our residents to function as clinical specialists in patient care positions in both the inpatient and outpatient setting. The program was developed to allow residents a great deal of self direction, to individualize their schedule and maximize opportunities to explore particular areas of interest. We have excellent preceptors who offer exciting rotations in several specialty areas within the Medical Center, including transplant, infectious disease, oncology, cardiovascular care, pain management, and mental health. Additionally, being close to both Oregon Health and Science University Hospital and the College of Pharmacy allows the resident to choose from a variety of electives, such as pediatrics, research, women's health and academic teaching. Our pharmacists serve as valuable members of the health care team, are committed to the profession of pharmacy, and demonstrate great leadership and mentoring skills.

All materials must be submitted to PhORCAS- Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service. Our interview process runs approximately 4-6 hours and will include several small group interviews with various preceptors in Portland, a meeting with the Director of Pharmacy, and a tour of the site, Please browse through the website for more information on rotations, preceptors, and application requirements.
We understand and appreciate that this is a hectic time for you. If we can be of any assistance throughout the application process, please feel free to e-mail me at: jeegisha.patel@va.gov or call me at (503) 220-8262, ext. 51477 or 1-800-949-100, ext. 51477.
