Description: The San Diego River Park Foundation’s Clean and green Team will hold a river cleanup event to help remove trash and debris from the San Diego River east of Qualcomm Stadium. Please help us take back our river and save it from illegal dumping. This is a great activity for people interested in clean water and a clean habitat for the plants and animals that call the river home. All tools and supplies are provided. Community service hours can be verified for those that need them. Be sure to dress in clothes that can get a little dirty and wear closed shoes, no sandals or flip-flops allowed for safety reasons. Volunteers will meet in the 24hour fitness parking lot at 5800 Ward Rd San Diego, CA 92108 under the trolley stairs.

Description: As part of our ongoing mission to save the San Diego River and its surrounding habitat, volunteers are needed to help remove trash and debris from the riverbed in the Mission Valley Preserve near the YMCA at 5505 Friars Rd. 92110

The San Diego River is a very important waterway from both an historic and ecological standpoint, home to many rare and endangered plants and animals. Help us to restore our river and nature preserve to provide a clean and healthy habitat for the native plants and wildlife that call the river home. No experience necessary, all tools and supplies provided. Community service hours can be verified for those that need them. Participants are asked to wear sturdy clothing that can get a little dirty and also wear closed shoes. Hat and sunscreen are recommended. Light rain does not cancel the event.

Groups and people 14 and up are welcomed.

Volunteers can park in the parking lot of the SDPD Western Division at 5215 Gaines St. 92110. We will meet across the street from the police department at the western end of the YMCA parking lot at 5505 Friars Rd. 92110. Description: Canoe Trail Clearing in the Everglades

FLAMINGO, FL: Everglades National Park will collaborate with the Swamp Apes Volunteer Group to host a volunteer event along the Bear Lake Canoe Trail on Sunday, February 24th 2013. This event is limited to 10 participants and will involve cleaning up the trail by removing fallen trees and debris that unsafely block its path.

Volunteers will work from canoes and on land. Staff will discuss the Homestead Canal’s history, the mangrove habitat, and Calusa Indian culture.

For reservations, contact John Souva at (305) 242-7040. Volunteers will meet at Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center Parking lot at 9:00 am. The event will be all day with an approximate end time around 5pm. Be prepared for hot and humid weather. Participants are required to wear long-sleeved shirts, boots, and long pants to protect against exposure to sun, biting insects, poisonwood, and ivy. ! If volunteers are dressed inappropriately, they will not be able to participate. We will provide all work materials. Please bring a lunch, water, hat, sunglasses, and maybe a change of clothes. Participating volunteers will receive a free entry pass, enabling each volunteer to visit the Everglades again and share this unique National Park with their family and friends.

Directions: Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center: 40001 SR 9336, Homestead, FL 33034 Volunteers coming from the Miami area and northern destinations should take the Florida Turnpike (Route 821) south until it ends merging with U.S.1 at Florida City. Turn right at the first traffic light onto Palm Drive (State Road 9336/SW 344th St.) and follow the signs to the park. The Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center will be on the right.
