Dr. Andres Quoted in New Book on Energy
In a recent work released by the Hoover Institution Dr. Richard Andres is cited and quoted extensively as a subject matter expert. "Powering the Armed Forces: Meeting the Military's Energy Challenges" is authored by Gary Roughead, Jeremy Carl and Manuel Hernandez, with a foreword by George P. Shultz. A recent article in the Chicago Tribune on the potential of a Solar Superstorm quotes Dr. Andres reflecting on the outcome of such a disaster. While it remains only a 7% chance of taking place in the next decade, the outcome would be so devastating that energy sources could cease for up to a year, commerce would cease, modern communications would end and water, fuel and transport would stall. Dr. Richard Andres has held the Energy and Environmental Security Chair at NDU, and is helping coordinate an interagency group to deal with the problem. Read more....

A New Energy Corridor?

Dr. Denise Nathali, Minerva Chair, has released her Event Report on a recent Center for Strategic Research (CSR) conference held in June on the NDU campus. Regional energy experts, U.S. government officials, private sector companies and academics joined together to discuss and examine the opportunities and constraints in developing offshore energy sources in the Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ) of Israel and the Republic of Cyprus (RoC) as well as in the Levant Basin.

T.X. Hammes article in The Diplomat
"Strategy for an Unthinkable Conflict" by Dr. T.X. Hammes was published in The Diplomat on July 27, 2012. The article focuses on U.S.-China relations and the theory of "Offshore Control." Hammes argues that there is no "good" strategy for any conflict between the U.S. and China and a "least bad" strategy is what should be sought. Dr. Hammes is a Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Strategic Research, Institute for National Strategic Studies (INSS). Read more.....
