Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP)

Last Updated on 11/17/2010

To better serve U.S. citizens in Hungary, ACS regularly updates its Warden system. The Warden system is designed to ensure that U.S. citizens receive timely information about natural disasters, civil emergencies or anything else that could affect their safety while in Hungary.

The Warden system for Hungary has been broken down into smaller units, according to districts, counties and/or by organizations. We would like to enroll every U.S. citizen in each of these regions and to identify U.S. citizen Wardens who would assist the Embassy to inform other U.S. citizens in their area of fast-breaking news. In general, Warden duties are not time-consuming, but could be vital in times of emergency.

U.S. citizens around the world who travel or reside abroad can access a newly launched Department of State web site for enrolling their foreign trips and residence information either through a link on Travel.State.Gov, or directly on the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program page. We invite you to enroll yourself and your family and get acquainted with the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program. If you are already enrolled with this Embassy, please re-enroll yourself on line to update your records.

The new Smart Traveler Enrollment Program for American citizens allows you to enroll and update your contact information on the internet at any time, making it easier for you to keep your information current. The site also provides you with up-to-date travel information customized to your unique travel agenda and itinerary. The data you provide is secured behind Department of State firewalls, accessed only by cleared personnel in embassies, consulates, and the Department of State, and releasable only with your permission under the provisions of the Privacy Act.

Please let us know how you like the new site. If you encounter any difficulties or have any questions about our Smart Traveler Enrollment Program web site, please send an e-mail to caibrs@state.gov. If you have specific questions about your enrollment with this Embassy, please contact us at warden.budapest@state.gov.
