Recent Grant Releases

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration has awarded a total of $8,065,580 to Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport for necessary improvements. 

“A strong transportation infrastructure is critical to attracting new businesses and industries,” said Shelby.  “These important grants will help Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International make necessary improvements for its safe and trustworthy operation.  Such improvements are essential to ensuring that this airport remains an efficient transportation hub for those traveling to, from, and through Alabama.”

Of the $8,065,580 awarded:

  • $3,500,000 will be used for Phase 2 of taxiway rehabilitation.
  • $4,565,580 will be used to construct terminal apron pavement for aircraft using concourses A and B.
