Facility Engineer Team 21 - Welcome

Facility Engineer Team 21 (FET21) is one of 36 Facility Engineer Teams within the United States Army Facility Engineer Group (USAFEG). FET 21 is based out of Devens, Massachusetts. FET21's higher headquarters is the Facility Engineer Center, Northeast, located at Fort Meade, Maryland.

The Team consists of seven senior-level soldiers. Team personnel are often highly skilled and working as civilians within the engineering field, bringing a unique degree of qualifications to the Team.

The Team operates as a self-contained, independent, “consulting-engineer” organization. The working environment is highly professional, with an emphasis on technical skills. Technology plays a key role in the success of the unit. All members make use of the highest level of technology possible. Members of the FEC-NE and its Teams make significant use of computer technologies to prepare plans, reports and other engineering documents.

During peacetime, FET21 has the mission of supporting the 94th RRC and New England area IMCOM engineering organizations. Services provided have included conducting environmental assessments, certifying arms vaults, and preparing plans and specifications for USAR center improvements. The unit conducts Annual Training on a fragmented basis over the course of the year in order to accomplish those diverse missions.

Through its affiliation with the USAFEG and the 416 th ENCOM, unit soldiers also have the opportunity to participate in special missions in addition to the normal annual training. Recent opportunities have included tours with TRANSCOM, the Installation Management Agency, and Korea . Upcoming tours include tours with New Horizons.

During war-time, a Team typically would serve in theater as a base DPW staff. Typical duties include preparation of plans and specifications, construction inspection, and master planning. Facility Engineer Teams have served in Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield, Haiti , the Balkans, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

FET21 served as the base DPW at LSA Anaconda as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, returning in April 2004. Other members of the Team have deployed with other FET as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.
