U.S. Army Garrison Fort Devens celebrates Army’s 236th Birthday.

The U.S. Army Garrison at Fort Devens celebrated the Army’s 236th  Birthday 14 June at Fort Devens.  More than two hundred Soldiers, Marines and Civilians including several WWII combat Veterans were on hand for the occasion. “From the battles at Lexington and Concord, through the World Wars, Korea and Viet Nam, from the Persian Gulf, to Iraq and Afghanistan, the Army continues to go rolling along” said LTC Warren F. Bacote.  “Remember those who are fighting abroad today and always remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice” he said.

The ceremony began with the presentation of colors by the Regional Training Site-Maintenance (RTS-M) Color Guard, and included greetings from the Hon. John McHugh, Secretary of the Army, General Martin Dempsey, Chief of Staff of the Army, and Sergeant Major of the Army Raymond Chandler.  Also included were a very spirited rendition of the Soldier’s Creed by SFC Casey L. Moss, Sr. and a presentation of the Civilian Creed by Ms. Frances Therrien.  The ceremony concluded with SFC Roger Martinkus presenting a History of the Army Birthday and a reading of the poem “My Name is Old Glory” by Mr. Mark Sullivan.

In a tip of the hat to the home team a cake emblazoned with the Boston Bruins logo shared the spot light with the Army 236th Birthday cake.
