Job Description |

Basic Purpose |
|
Conducts experiments on the structure determination of biological macromolecules, using crystallographic diffraction methods with special emphasis on applications of synchrotron radiation for structure determination of macromolecules to aid the Structural Genomics programs. Participates in the operation of the user facility and the user program at the Structural Biology (SBC). |

Knowledge, Skills and Experience |
|
Considerable Considerable knowledge and skills and experience in macromolecular crystallographic methods and concepts, the operation of x-ray sources, data collection using synchrotron beamlines, x-ray data analysis, structure determination, structure refinement and computer modeling of molecular structures. |
|
Good Good knowledge and skills in molecular biology, protein crystallization, biophysics, and the physical chemistry of macromolecules. Good skills of the procedures used to operate complex physical research facilities, beamlines, detectors, computers, and software used at the SBC. Good skill in oral and written communication, including contributions for the preparation of proposals, presentations, publication, and reports. |

Other Typical office/biophysical laboratory and beamline working environment. Some health hazards may be encountered (radiation, chemicals); an awareness of possible chemical and radiation hazards is essential. Extended hours and frequent weekend work. Some travel. |

Minimum Education/Experience Requirements Bachelor's Degree and 5+ years work experience, or Master's Degree and 3+ years work experience, or Doctorate and 0 years or their equivalents |
