Job Description
  Basic Purpose
  Provides technical support and operation assistance to the microscopy group. Assists scientific staff in support of a diverse international group of users to conduct experiments efficiently and safely. The role may include initial setup, conduct of experiments, providing user orientation, and overseeing the shipment of user equipment to and from the laboratory. Assist in the design and construction of improvements to instrumentation. Responsible for repairs and general maintenance in support of experimental operations for staff and user experiments.
   
  Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  Considerable
Experience in supporting and operating complex and large-scale instrumentation in a scientific laboratory environment. Knowledge of maintenance and diagnostic techniques and equipment for x-ray beamline operations or other complex systems.
  Good
Knowledge of interactions with scientific staff and users. Knowledge of mechanical designs, vacuum technology, motion controls, and electronic components, as well as computers. Skills in troubleshooting, diagnostics, and independent judgments in technical problem-solving.
  Minimum Education/Experience Requirements
Bachelor's Degree and 0 years work experience, or Master's Degree and 0 years work experience or their equivalents
