Deputy Chief of Staff Operations and Intelligence

General Johnson is the Deputy Chief of Staff, Operations and Intelligence, Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, Casteau, Belgium. She has served in various assignments in air mobility, airlift and tanker flying operations and training, academic instruction and personnel management. The general commanded a deployed air refueling squadron in Operation Southern Watch and an Air Refuelling Wing in support of Operations Nobel Eagle, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. She holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Operations Research, a Masters of Arts Degree in Politics and Economics, and a Masters of Science Degree in National Security Strategy. She also became a Fellow at Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology after completing focused studies in Foreign Politics, International Affairs, and National Interests.

Major General Johnson entered the Air Force in 1981 after graduating from the US Air Force Academy as a distinguished graduate. General Johnson earned her pilot wings in 1984 after completing graduate studies as a Rhodes Scholar at Brasenose College, Oxford University, England. From Oxford, she moved to Williams AFB, Arizona in 1983 for undergraduate pilot training and later qualification training at Altus AFB Oklahoma in 1984. She spent the next 5 years as a C-141 Instructor Aircraft Commander, Plans Officer, Command Post Duty Officer, and Executive Officer at Charleston AFB, South Carolina. In 1989 she became an Assistant Professor of political science and T-41 Instructor Pilot at the US Air Force Academy. After two years in Colorado, she became an Air Force Aide to the President, at the White House in Wash, DC before moving to Travis AFB, California in 1994. While at Travis, the General was a KC-10 Instructor Pilot, Operations Officer, and Commander of the 9th Air Refueling Squadron. In 1998, she became a student at the National War College, Fort Lesley McNair, Wash, DC. A year later in 1999, General Johnson became the Deputy Commander, 97th Operations Group, Altus AFB, Oklahoma and in 2000 became Commander. She became a National Security Management Fellow at Syracuse University, New York in 2002. In 2004, she assumed command of the 22nd Air Refueling Wing, McConnell AFB, Kansas. From there, the General relocated to Scott AFB, Illinois as Director of Personnel, Headquarters Air Mobility Command, Scott AFB. She then moved on to the Pentagon, Wash DC in 2007 to become the Director of Public Affairs, Office of the Secretary of the Air Force. Later in 2007, she was promoted to Deputy Director for Information and Cyberspace Policy, Strategic Plans and Policy Directorate, Joint Staff, the Pentagon, Wash DC. Before assuming her current role, General Johnson was the Director, Strategy, Policy, Programs and Logistics, US Transportation Command, Scott AFB, Illinois.

Her major awards include Defense Superior Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Aerial Achievement Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Combat Readiness Medal with oak leaf cluster, National Defense Service Medal with bronze star, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with bronze star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal

General Johnson is a command pilot with more than 3,600 flying hours in C-141, T-41, KC-10, C-17, C-5 and KC-135 aircraft.
