Join SBIR at the 2010 BIO International Convention. Michael Weingarten, Director of NCI SBIR Development Center, and Greg Evans, Program Director, will each discuss new SBIR funding available for small businesses, opportunities for investors and strategic partners to collaborate with SBIR awardees, tips for applying to the SBIR program, and how to overcome commercialization challenges and enable the development of technologies to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer.

There will be two key opportunities to engage with SBIR leadership:

Panel Discussion: Novel Strategies for Surviving and Building Value in Drug Development: Bridges over the Valley of Death

Add to Outlook Calendar

Track: Finance
Session Date & Time: Tuesday, May 4, 2010, 4:00 - 5:30 p.m.
Location: McCormick Place, Chicago, IL
Room: S405A

Description:

With insights from industry and finance experts, Michael Weingarten will review the SBIR Phase II Bridge Award. The SBIR Phase II Bridge Award is a new $3M funding opportunity designed to facilitate partnerships between NCI and third-party investors (VC's, Pharmaceutical and device companies, etc.) and enable the commercialization of promising cancer therapies, imaging technologies, and diagnostics.

Also on the panel is a Bridge Awardee who will share his company's technology and explain how SBIR funding helped them attract private investors and cross the funding gap known as the "Valley of Death" that exists between the end of a Phase II award and commercialization.

This session aims to:

  • Explain how emerging companies and their investors are pursuing financial strategies in capital-scarce times to get over the gap in funding colloquially called the Valley of Death.
  • Provide a forum for attendees to hear real-life examples of how biotech companies obtain NCI SBIR grants and gain practical tips on how to apply.
