Movin’ & Shakin’: Advances in Seismic Retrofit

This workshop will be held at the Association for Preservation Technology Conference in Los Angeles, Nov 2-3. It will focus on the seismic influences on historic buildings, addressing both the analysis and design for seismic retrofit. The workshop is intended to showcase the current and latest practice in seismic engineering.

Principally oriented to structural engineers and technically oriented architects, this two day workshop, including lunch and breaks where attendees and presenters can interact informally, will cover a range of topics. The program will cover a variety of building structural systems, materials and typologies, from adobe, wood, masonry, reinforced concrete, to steel frame, and one story to midrise. Case studies will be included by the presenters.

Allied topics of interest will include innovative seismic retrofit solutions, computer modeling of existing structures, non-destructive evaluation techniques (NDE), analysis of structural building materials, building codes and standards, seismic disaster response, the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards as applied to seismic retrofit, and issues of sustainability related to structural engineering.
