1/22/2013 - SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- Since October 2012, enlisted Airmen have been administering the physical training test at the Fitness Center and testing track due to downsizing.
Within the past couple of months, Airmen have maintained about the same scores as when they did with civilians, scoring an average of a 93% pass rate, according to FAC officials.
"I feel more comfortable with military members conducting the test," said Senior Airman Christopher Hughes, 20th Logistics Readiness Squadron vehicle maintainer. "Civilians were intimidating."
Military members who administer the test cycle through the Fitness Assessment Cell for approximately three months at a time. It is a requirement that each member be trained properly before administering the tests.
Overall, the way the test is administered is no different than before the changeover from civilians, and there have been no major differences in Airmen's scores.
"Civilians or military, it should not matter how Airmen do on their test," said Staff Sgt. Andre Penn, 20th Force Support Squadron FAC manager.
It is part of the Airmen's job to be ready to deploy at any given moment and to be ready to endure the physical challenges they may face, he continued.
