The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has been established by WMO and UNEP to assess scientific, technical and socio-economic information relevant for the understanding of climate change, its potential impacts and options for adaptation and mitigation. It is open to all Members of the UN and of WMO. The IPCC Working Group I (WG I) assesses the physical scientific aspects of the climate system and climate change.

 

 

 

 

Climate Change 2013: The Physical Science Basis

IPCC Working Group I is pleased to announce the launch of the new website www.climatechange2013.org as part of the Working Group I contribution to the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report.

The Twelfth Session of Working Group I (WGI-12) took place from 23 to 26 September 2013 in Stockholm, Sweden. This Session of WGI approve the Summary for Policymakers (SPM) of the Working Group I contribution to the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report (WGI AR5) and accepted the underlying scientific and technical assessment. Communication and outreach activities are currently being planned and additional information is available here.

 

 

On June 7, 2013 Working Group I completed the Final Draft of Climate Change 2013: The Physical Science Basis, the contribution to the IPCC's Fifth Assessment Report. The final draft comprises 14 Chapters, 3 Annexes, a Technical Summary, and a Summary for Policymakers. The Summary for Policymakers was made available to Governments for comments until August 2, 2013. An overview of the size of the assessment products is given in the Table below (page numbers refer to draft pages of 57 lines per page, font 11 pt).

 

 

 

 

The Expert and Government Review of the Second Order Draft of the Working Group I contribution of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Fifth Assessment Report Climate Change 2013: The Physical Science Basis was held from 5 October to 30 November 2012. We would like to thank all those experts and government reviewers for their important contribution to the development of the WGI AR5.

 

 

 

 

Fourth Lead Author Meeting of IPCC Working Group I in Hobart (Australia)

 

 

The Working Group I Fourth Lead Author Meeting took place from 13-19 January 2013 in Hobart, Tasmania, hosted by the Government of Australia. The Coordinating Lead Authors, Lead Authors and Review Editors for the Working Group I contribution to the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report Climate Change 2013: The Physical Science Basis met to consider the comments received during the Expert and Government Review of the Second Order Draft.

 

The Working Group I Third Lead Author Meeting took place from 16-20 April 2012 in Marrakech, Morocco, hosted by the government of Morocco. The Coordinating Lead Authors, Lead Authors and Review Editors for the Working Group I contribution to the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report Climate Change 2013: The Physical Science Basis met to consider the comments received during the Expert Review of the First Order Draft.

 

 

The Working Group I Co-Chairs, on behalf of the WGI Bureau, announced the chapter teams for the WGI contribution to the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) in June 2010. The list of Coordinating Lead Authors (CLA), Lead Authors (LA), and Review Editors (RE) is available here (updated 06/07/12).

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The WG I Technical Support Unit, which manages the organizational and administrative activities of the Working Group, is hosted by the University of Bern, Switzerland and funded by the Government of Switzerland.
