113th U.S. Congress Sworn In with 46 Exchange Alumni

Joaquin Castro. Six American Council of Young Political Leaders U.S. State Department exchange alumni were sworn in as new members of the 113th U.S. Congress on January 3. The new members include Senator Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) and five members of the House of Representatives including:

 

  • Joaquin Castro (D – TX)
  • Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ)
  • Juan Vargas (D-CA)
  • Derek Kilmer (D-WA)
  • Mark Pocan (D-WI)

The number of U.S. State Department exchange alumni in the 113th Congress now totals 46, including six sitting senators; minority leader Senator McConnell (R-KY) and majority whip Senator Durbin (D-IL) among them. Forty-four of these alumni participated in the American Council of Young Political Leaders program while two participated in the Fulbright Program.
