Document Checklist

In order to be best prepared for your upcoming nonimmigrant visa interview at the U.S. Consulate General, Sydney, please ensure that you take care to follow these instructions and that you have the necessary documents in advance of arriving for your appointment.

Please arrive NO EARLIER THAN 15 MINUTES before your scheduled appointment time. Security will not allow entry to applicants that arrive more than 15 minutes in advance of their appointment time.

Please note all required paper work must be PRINTED HARDCOPIES. Electronic copies will not be accepted.

Use the checklist below to ensure you have all of the required documents:

Nonimmigrant Visa Checklist

  • Application fee receipt.
  • The current valid passport of each applicant
  • Appointment confirmation page. This will also have a barcode, as well as the details of your appointment time.
  • A valid passport style photo. This is a requirement if the photo you uploaded into your DS-160 form is not on a white background and was not taken within the last 6 months. If you are unsure whether or not the image you uploaded qualifies, please bring a recent printed passport photo with you.
  • Other required documents – these vary based on your visa category and individual circumstances

Please ensure that the documents you bring are out of envelopes or sleeves when presented at the Consulate. For families, the spouse and children’s documents must be separated individually. Failure to provide the documents as requested above will delay your interview appointment.

Second MRV Fee Payment Process

Some applicants may require two different U.S. visas at the same time. For example, if you plan to study in the United States and then travel for an extended period after your program ends, you may need an F, M or J student visa AND a B1/B2 tourist visa, which requires the payment of a second application fee (called “MRV” fees).  However, if you are applying for a C1/D crew visa and also require a B1/B2 tourist visa, you do not need to pay the second application fee.  For additional information on whether you need a second visa, and if you need to pay a second fee, please see our FAQ page.

Applicants may only pay one application fee through their profile on ustraveldocs.com, so the second fee must be paid in person at a participating Australia Post outlet. To pay the second application fee you must download a deposit slip here, then pay the fee at one of the eligible locations.  Please bring both payment receipts to your visa interview.
