Ambassador's Speeches

Statement by Ambassador Martinez after Presentation of Credentials

September 18, 2009

Good afternoon. I am delighted to be in your beautiful country, and I am greatly honored to have been chosen by President Obama to represent the United States in Argentina.

I just presented my credentials as the new U.S. Ambassador to Argentina to Foreign Minister Taiana.  It is the first of many conversations that we will have about our excellent bilateral relationship.  I told the Foreign Minister that the U.S. greatly values its relationship with Argentina, and that we share many common values and objectives.

We also discussed our countries’ close ties in the cultural and sports fields.  I mentioned the most recent example, the one and only “Tower of Tandil,” Juan Martín del Potro, for his recent victory in the U.S. Open, my country´s most important tennis tournament.

I will do everything in my power to enhance the excellent communication and cooperation that we now enjoy. As the U.S. Ambassador, I also want to help Argentines get to know the United States better, to deepen the mutual understanding between our two peoples to the benefit of both nations.

Thank you.
