Dhi Qar
Dhi Qar province is located in southern Iraq, and prior to 1976 was known as Muntafiq. Dhi Qar was home to the ancient civilization of Sumer and the ruins of Ur, Eridu, Lagash and Ngirsu are found here.
PRT Dhi Qar is located near the provincial capital of Nasiriyah. It is the last remaining coalition PRT, and is led by an Italian diplomat. The team is comprised of 58 PRT personnel representing the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, U.S. Department of State, and numerous local hires. The team focuses on developing capacity in areas of governance, economic institutions, agriculture, rule of law and essential services. PRT activities aim to produce political dialogue, strengthen governing institutions, encourage social integration, and foster a broad based economic revitalization. The PRT is supported by the U.S. Army 4/1 Armored Division.
