A Letter from the Family Readiness Officer
Hello there, my name is Michelle King and I have the distinct pleasure and honor of being the Family Readiness Officer (FRO) for the 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion aboard Camp Pendleton, California.
A little history about me, I am a Marine Corps wife with 3 teenage boys. I am a California native, so I am blessed to be back here where I was born. Not HOME, because "HOME is where the Marine Corps send us" , that I learned long ago. My family has been to some great and exciting places, courtesy of the good 'ole USMC. We have met some life long friends, regretfully said a lot of good-byes and funny enough usually a HELLO again, just in a different place. I have learned a lot in the big, small world of the Marine Corps. So for however long or short anyone is in the military world always just "make the best of it" and it WILL make the best out of you!!!!
For those who have not heard the term, Family Readiness Officer and are not sure WHAT that job entitles. The best description I can say is, a liaison for the families to receive battalion information in the marine/sailors absence, a direct contact expert for any resources & referrals needed. Lastly, and what I feel to be most important, the pairing of command & myself to ensure the marines/sailors AND their families are consistently "mission ready".
In today's Marine Corps they have seen the need for many of programs to assist whosoever the marine/sailor is "born into, sworn into or married into" One of my personal favorites is Military One Source. They are available 24/7 to answer any question you may have from A to Z. They can be reached at 1-800-342-9647 or www.MilitaryOneSource.com. If you should have a need or situation I am certain that there is a helpful organization ready to assist/educate with whatever they can.
Me being the Family Readiness Officer for 1st LAR would be the perfect "tool in your toolbox" to have handy should anything arise. Do not hesitate to contact me : )
Respectfully,
Michelle King
1st LAR FRO
