Overview

The Coastal Restoration Assessment Branch (CRAB) investigates interactions among abiotic and biotic ecosystem components, biogeochemical processes and biological interactions within and among coastal ecosystems, and dynamics of spatial heterogeneity across landscapes.

Issues

CRAB conducts interdisciplinary science at landscape scales by integrating monitoring, modeling, research, and adaptive management. This work contributes toward a greater understanding of the consequences of multiple environmental and anthropogenic stressors and threats on wetland ecosystem integrity. Research data is used to develop sound science that supports assessments of ecosystem condition and performance, contributing to the field of wetland science and building a stronger understanding of wetland processes. This knowledge improves the ability to:

Identify proper restoration and management activities relative to site conditions

Assess the impacts of specific habitat restoration and management practices on diversity and ecosystems

Develop scientifically based plans

Effectively adapt management practices based on lessons learned
