3rd Radio Battalion Battalion Commanding Officer

LtCol Jon Halverson was commissioned on 26 May 1993. Upon graduation from The Basic School, Basic Communications Officer Course, (BCOC), and Cryptologic Division Officers Course (CDOC) in April 1995, he was assigned to 2d Radio Battalion, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

During his tour at 2d Radio Battalion, he attened Winter Mountain Leaders Course, Bridgeport, California, served as Platoon Commander, Company Executive Officer, 22nd MEU(SOC) Radio Battalion Detachment OIC, and Battalion Communications Officer. While deployed with 22 MEU he participated in operations in the Congo and Sierra Leone.

In June 1998 he was selected to attend the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. He graduated in July 2000 and was assigned to Installations and Logistics Department (I&L), Headquarters Marine Corps for his Special Education Program payback tour. Working directly for the DC I&L Chief of Staff, he analyzed Marine Corps policy for purchasing, storing, and issuing secondary repairables (SCEREPs), HMMWV engine rebuilding options, the validity of key Integrated Logistics concepts, and the development of supply management IT tools; all in support of major policy decisions by DC I&L. During this tour he attended the MAGTF Intelligence Officers Course (MIOC).

LtCol Halverson was assigned to II MEF in June 2003. He served within the G-2 as the Signals Intelligence Electronic Warfare Officer (SIEWO) and Special Security Officer (SSO). Additionally, he served as a G-2 representative within several Operational Planning Teams updating and refreshing OPLANS.

In July 2004, he was transferred to 2d Radio Battalion to serve as Executive Officer. The battalion deployed to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom 04 and 05, supporting major joint and combined combat operations throughout the Al Anbar Province.

In July 2006, he reported to Marine Corps University where he attended Command and Staff College and the School of Advanced Warfighting.

LtCol Halverson reported to the 2d Marine Aircraft Wing in 2008 as the MAGTF Plans Officer. He served in that capacity with the 2d Marine Aircraft Wing (FWD) in Al Asad, Iraq from January to November 2010.

LtCol Halverson graduated from the Naval Academy in 1993 where he received a Bachelors of Science degree in Political Science. He holds a Masters of Science degree in Operations Research from the Naval Postgraduate School, and a Masters of Military Studies and a Master of Operational Studies from the Marine Corps University. Personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with 3 gold stars.

He is married to the former Ellen Tacelosky of Quarryville, Pennsylvania, and they have two children, Ryan and Evan.
