US to improve electric grid in Kandahar province

KANDAHAR AIRFIELD, Afghanistan — Electricity is a scare resource in Kandahar City but should become less so for Kandahar government district centers and businesses when four separate projects designed to improve electricity distribution in key areas of the city are completed by winter 2013. Regional Command-South is overseeing these projects currently in the planning phase. Each required comprehensive coordination among RC-South, USAID, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat, the Afghan electric utility company. [Read More]

Army Engineers fought and lived through the attack on Pearl Harbor

Seven December 1941 was the opening scene of World War II, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was there. At 7:55 a.m., two waves of Japanese warplanes from a naval task force about 250 miles north of Hawaii appeared over Oahu. Corps, Garrison Participate in Hawaiian Site Blessing for First Phase of new CAB Complex

U.S. Army Garrison-Hawaii, Army Corps of Engineers and contractor David Boland LLC personnel participated in a Hawaiian site blessing Nov. 28, 2012 on the south side of the Wheeler airstrip, officially starting the construction for the first phase of the new 25th Infantry Division (25th ID) Combat Aviation Brigade Complex (CAB).
