Clinical Electives Program: Gynecology Consult Service

Rotation Description
This program is designed to provide senior medical students an opportunity to participate in clinical trials as it relates to the department of gynecology. The student will be directed by a senior faculty member and will work closely with many members of the NIH team. The NIH is unique in that the patients seen here are of research protocols. The students' clinical experiences will include the following: 1) participation in clinical assessments, consultations, and management of wmen with gynecologic and reproductive disorders seen by the Gynecology Consult Service, NICHD, 2) participation in surgical cases in the operating room, and 3) attendance during the weekly NICHD clinical rounds and teaching lectures.

Selection of Students
One student per module per 4-week or 8-week session.

Rotation Objectives

Learn the clinical skills needed to evaluate patients with gynecological disorders including diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
Effectively commuicate information to patients and the multidisciplinary clinical team.
Gain insight into the role of gynecology in a research setting.
Learn to evaluate and manage gynecological disorders of women patients participating in a variety of Clinical Protocols.
Prepare a scholarly product which may be a written report of the research, a presentation to the department, or a manuscript for submission.
