Scheduling an Appointment

Most Immigrant Visa appointments are scheduled by the National Visa Center.  All Diversity Visa Appointments are scheduled by the Kentucky Consular Center.  If you have been informed by the National Visa Center that Embassy Freetown will contact you with instructions to schedule an appointment and apply for a visa, you will need to e-mail us at consularfreetown@state.gov.

When scheduling your visa appointment, you must provide:

  • Case Number (without spaces: FTN200912345)
  • Beneficiary/applicant's LAST NAME, Given name(s)
  • Beneficiary/applicant's Date of Birth in the format 01-JAN-1900
  • Preference category (e.g. IR2, F2A, K1, etc.)
  • An estimate of when you will be prepared for your appointment, though we cannot guarantee availability at that time.

The appointment backlog varies during the year according to seasonal demands, so we recommend that applicants apply as far in advance as possible.

If you are requesting a rescheduled or postponed appointment, please realize that we have limited availability and you are unlikely to get your first choice.  Please include the information above as well as the detailed reason for your request.

For Diversity Visa applicants, we cannot guarantee a postponed appointment, and we will not reschedule your appointment if you do not request in advance of your original date.  We will never postpone a Diversity Visa appointment more than one month after your original date.  When you request a postponed Diversity Visa appointment, we will either add you to the waiting list or, in some cases, deny your request.  As appointment slots become available, we will contact those on the waiting list to receive an appointment.  We will prioritize those who contacted us well ahead of time or have particularly compelling reasons for their request.  You DO NOT need to reschedule if you are still waiting for your Affidavit of Support.  We will allow you to bring that in after your interview, whenever you receive it.
